DALARNA ANTIQUE INSPIRED HORSE 17 CM
First written traces describing the Swedish Dala Horse founded in a sermon around the year 1624.
During long periods the men working alone in forests, occuped their evenings to carve wood toys for children. They used wasted wood to carve small farm horses.
They painted them in red because it was the only color available in this time. They used copper of the mine of Falun (mining city). They painted harnesses and flowered saddles of patterns called “Kurbits”, small leaves of shrubs.
Thereafter the tradition persisted and small Dala Horses were carved by people of the villages which, during the long and cold Swedish winters couldn't work outside.
Dala Horses obtained their international notoriety during the New York exhibition in 1939,with a 3 meters high Dala Horse from Mr Grannas Olsson, at the entry of the House of Sweden.
