Water resistant wool mittens with a classic pattern shared with our Bjorøy sweater. Made with 100% long-lasting Norwegian wool and lined with polyester. The pattern originates from the famous Norwegian Sotra sweater, easily recognizable with a pattern of repeated eight-petal roses across. The original Sotra sweater was part of the Dale of Norway collection in the early 1990s. This Sotra sweater originates from the Sotra island, west of Bergen, exposed to the harsh weather from the North Sea. On this island a variation of the eight-petal rose pattern emerged: The roses are separated by diagonal lines on a contrasting background, giving an intricate geometrical pattern. It is believed that the eight-petal rose came to the island around 1850, introduced by traders and sailors from the Hardanger region. These mittens are named after Bjorøy, a small island in the same archipelago as the Sotra island.

What is Plover - Long-lasting Norwegian wool?

A proprietary blend of wool produced in Norway from Norwegian sheep.

Due to this yarn’s unique qualities and consistent popularity, this wool quality has been a part of our family since 1939!

Norwegian wool is one of the world’s most animal-friendly textile fibers, due to the sheep’s natural mountain life. This yarn offers an authentic look renowned for its uniquely crisp look and longevity.

Garments and accessories knitted with Plover needs to be hand washed. (Fiber diameter: 33 micron)

Dale of Norway is synonymous with excellent quality, design and craftsmanship. Since 1879 the people of Dale have been crafting unique yarns and knitwear, and today they are proud to be the world"s leading brand of authentic and exclusive Norwegian knitwear.

Their designs are inspired by the magnificent nature that surrounds them and by their love for the mountains and the great outdoors. Norwegians have long traditions in wearing knitwear for both sport and leisure, and a woollen sweater from Dale of Norway is for many the obvious choice while enjoying nature and mountain life.
